Wood Carving

I like the way beech stains and the fact that is relatively inexepensive. I am however having diffculties finding 1/4inch beech plywood. Birch plywood is easily available in home improvement stores. i was wandering whether I could substitute cabinet door fronts with birch and build the rest from beech.
Will beech and birch accept oil stains similar way ? The unstained wood looks similar.

hello,what i do is get a small sample of what i want and put a bit of stain on it,if i like the way it looks,i go with that.
Both birch and beech are soft woods so staing either of them is no problem,except one will be darker in color…i like working with birch…you can probly go to a mill and have them cut beech to what you want or order it from them,it will be cheaper then retail…hope this helps

Why don’t you check out eBAY and see what’s been selling? You need to look at completed auctions, as that shows what an item actually sold for, if it sold at all. A local craft show might be a better outlet than eBay, but it’s worth checking out that and etsy also.

It would help to know where you are located – statutes differ by location

I like to play paintball, mountain bike, shoot guns at my local gun range, play xbox and computer games….crap like that. Anything that someone my skill level can make that will help me in any of those interests.

I would like to start a business that I can "do it myself" with a small startup budget. I am skilled in woodworking and also electrical.

my father in law started with doing jobs for friends and family then expanded through word of mouth doing woodworking and repairs. He can make a good amount building a deck or cabinet doors, etc. He took pictures of everything he did so he could have a portfolio of his work to show others. Vistaprint.com does a pretty good business card as well for cheap (free + shipping)

I’ve seen a simple metal pill box, with a plastic interior with 3 separate spaces for pills. It can easily fit in ones pocket. A woodworker can add a veneer, to make it more enjoyable. Just can’t find where to get them.

drug stores usually cary them. I found some at the dollar store before
