Helping my Dad – What’s the difference between carpentry and woodworking?

Posted on January 22nd, 2011 by admin

My Dad has is a carpenter and has been unemployed for a while. I’m looking online for a job for him but I got confused since he’s a carpenter ANd he works with wood so he’s also a woodworker. Is carpenter just a more professional name? Or woodworkers want everyone to know that they don’t do anything else?

Woodworking is a skill used in cabinet making and furniture making. Carpentry is generally a skill used in home repair or new construction. I am sorry your father is unemployed. I am sure a lot of people in the construction industry are in the same boat. Maybe he could look into a career change and go to college and learn a new skill. There are a lot of government grants out there available for the unemployed.

It’s sweet of you to be helping out your Dad. Best wishes and God Bless.
