How do I remove paint from woodwork?

Posted on March 3rd, 2010 by admin

The people who painted my living room before I lived there must have been lazy because they didn’t tape off the woodwork. Thus, there are places where random paint is on the woodwork. Is there a way to remove these small areas of paint without ruining the woodwork?

You can scrape it off, or a better option is to use Goof Off (not goo gone). You can find it in the paint department at HD or Lowe’s. Hope this helps.

Woodworking 4 Home By John Metz – Scam?

Posted on March 3rd, 2010 by admin

Hi everyone
Have someone bought the Woodworking 4 Home 14000 projects By John Metz and know if its a scam or not? I really want to get this designs and plans but wonder if someone bought it and found them useful. If anyone bought it please let me know if you found the Woodworking 4 Home projects to be good and helpful or not.
Thanks

Hi
I bought the woodworking 4 home package about 2 weeks ago and firstly I can tell you that it’s not a scam. There are 1000’s of projects available in this package and overall I found most of the woodworking 4 home projects that I already checked to be useful and very clear. I really like the customer support of the product and John Metz already helped me 2 times when I emailed him.
You can learn about the pros and cons of the woodworking 4 home package and find if it’s really for you and worth your money in this helpful article:

Hope it helps…

kitchen cabinets – 1/4 sawn white oak with a black rubbing stain is what I saw and loved. Would red oak work?

Posted on March 3rd, 2010 by admin

This is for our lower cabinets and drawers in our new kitchen. The cabinet guy wants us to use red oak rather than white. We asked for a sample from him. Has anyone seen the red oak stained black? What do you experienced woodworkers think?

Quarter sawn white oak will have medullary ray fleck that will not be apparent in red oak. Red oak is not a bad wood but don’t expect it to look the same. Quarter sawn white oak was a favorite of the arts and craft movement. Take a look at the mission style furniture from Stickley to get an idea why it was and is so popular.

You will pay significantly more for quarter sawn white oak. Here in New England it’s about twice as expensive as flat sawn red oak and sometimes hard to find.

Wait for the sample!

How can we reach artists who might be interested in buying our Northern Michigan lakefront home/cottage?

Posted on March 3rd, 2010 by admin

We recently worked with an architect to design and build a lakefront vacation home that included a wonderful water colorist studio and a huge woodworker/craftsman/clay work shop in Northern Michigan. We have a website to describe it: http://mustsellourcottage.com/. How can we get the word to artistic types across the country who might be interested?

You might want to buy ad space on a web site that caters to them.

Although that crowd where I am in not really online. Ads in local magazines before and around the next art fest might work well.

You can also ask local galleries if you can leave a brochure with them, they all know each other and talk, talk, talk.

I need lesson Plans for woodworking projects for 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students?

Birdhouse, musical instruments, figurines…

Why do the conservatives always come out of the woodwork on Saturday and Sunday?

Posted on March 1st, 2010 by admin

It is so freaking annoying. I can spend the entire day (M-F) answering progressive questions with progressive answers…and then all of the sudden Saturday and Sunday arrives and …*BOOM*… there is a ton of conservative BS being spewed all weekend and then Monday arrives and we’re back to progressive and important questions.

What is it about Saturday and Sunday that causes these cretins to come out of the woodwork?

We have weekends off from our JOBS.

How to make a magic lantern?

Posted on March 1st, 2010 by admin

I need to make a magic lantern for a communications class project, and i was wondering if anyone had any plans on how to make such an object. An example of what i need to make can be found at http://chestofbooks.com/home-improvement/woodworking/Handicraft-For-Boys/How-to-Make-a-Magic-Lantern.html the only problem with this design is that my project is due friday so i cant get the lenses they are talking about. Anyone have any ideas?

I’d thought that any regular camera lens could be used for making things like this (parlor tricks, primitive camera projection thingies, in a dark room), but perhaps try this one instead:
